‘Tis the season for pumpkin pie, cozy sweaters and reflecting on what we are thankful for this year.

I’ll be honest – this year has been a challenging year for me, both professionally and personally. I’ve had family members diagnosed with cancer, health scares for my beloved pup, trees that fell on my house during a tornado, the loss of my grandmother and not to mention – two anxiety attacks. Through it all, however, I am incredibly grateful. I’m grateful my family is safe, I’m grateful for having no regrets and I’m grateful for my work family.

Yes, you read that correctly – my work family. Let’s be clear: the true meaning of family is the people who support and love you, and the people you can confide in and trust. To me that means my team – the people I surround myself with 40 hours a week, 52 weeks a year.

I started at Coyne PR in 2013 and in the last 6 years, I have made connections with co-workers that have transcended into real friendships that will last a lifetime – heck, I recently received the honor of being named godmother to one of my co-worker’s children! (Love you, Owen!)

And I’m not alone. Many of my co-workers have strong bonds with each other, including celebrating life stages together – new apartments and houses, engagements, weddings and babies. We’ve even supported each other during tough times – losing loved ones, disasters, accidents and health scares.

So of course, I’m grateful for these people who simply came into my life as professional acquaintances and have made such a positive impact on me. It’s so refreshing to work at a company where a family-like atmosphere is encouraged. Believe me – it’s not always “kumbaya” – just like real families, there can be stress, tension and disagreements.

Not many organizations will say this, but Coyne practices a “no assholes” hiring policy – we laugh, but it’s true. We protect our own and are selective when reviewing who will be the newest additions to the family. Not only do candidates need the skillset and experiences to help our clients achieve success, but they need to be decent people, honest and trustworthy.

So, if you are currently in the market for a job this holiday season and considering Coyne PR, just know even if life knocks you down – your Coyne team will be there to help pick you back up!
